The Canadian Museum of Nature. A stunning wedding venue

The Canadian Museum of Nature. A stunning wedding venue

I submitted a wedding for the Ottawa Wedding Awards never thinking I would actually win for wedding of the year! I guess I was a bit daunted by the fact that the wedding submitted would be judged by a panel of industry experts. Wedding planners only need apply.

My clients’ wedding had the winning combination. Fabulous style meets fabulous vendors meets fabulous venue – the stunning Canadian Museum of Nature.

It really is a castle in our downtown. The exterior facade, the stone and marble interior and the stained glass, what is not to love! And oh wait, it’s a fabulous museum with beautiful exhibits to top it off.

The ceremony was held at dusk in the Queen’s Lantern so that the light from the sunset could frame the spectacular windows and stained glass. It was warm, intimate, and perfectly decorated with candles in glass vases of various heights, red roses, mahogany chiavari chairs with arrangements down the aisle.

Since this wedding was in mid-October, we couldn’t count on outdoor photos. The Museum of Nature though has amazing light inside and so many great spots for photos.

The dinner and dancing took place in the Barrack Salon. Its unique half-moon shaped room, tall windows, and light colors were a wonderful start to this timeless decor. Taking cues from the iconic brand Burberry’s red, black, cream, and hints of gold, the decor was timeless and elegant thanks to the help of Wedecor.

The in-house caterer Gourmet Cuisine crafted a fabulous five course meal that was both beautiful and delicious! My clients have impeccable taste and expect perfection. They both felt their wedding was perfect and they wouldn’t change a thing! I loved working with the team at the Canadian Museum of Nature and was honoured to have won this award with them.

“From my very first meeting with Erica, I knew I would be in good hands.  Our 18-hour wedding day was completed without a single hiccup, which means that all of our memories are full of joy. “

The wedding planning process began almost immediately after our engagement over the Christmas holidays. We wanted to be married within the year so the search was on to find and book some key vendors. We finally chose our wedding date based on who and what was available. We had less than 8 months, but being a new bride-to-be, I was eager and excited. It was a good thing too. Steve was living in the USA so I had to take care of most of the planning on my own. However, within a couple of months of breathing and dreaming all things wedding, I began to lose steam. As I looked over my to-do list, I began to feel overwhelmed. That’s when a friend of mine told me about Erica.

From my very first meeting with Erica, I knew I would be in good hands. Even though there were many things still to do, she provided me with the reassurance I needed time and time again. Erica offered much-needed advice and plenty of ideas while leaving final decisions in our hands. She would come well-prepared to our meetings and always help in areas that we were struggling. Her relationships and experience with vendors made us feel comfortable with any negotiations. And she offers all of this along with a friendly, positive attitude. Our friends and family even made a point of telling us how much they enjoyed interacting with her.

We highly recommend Erica because ultimately we are certain that our wedding was a success because of her involvement. Our 18-hour wedding day was completed without a single hiccup, which means that all of our memories are full of joy.

“Every time we met Erica she reflected openness while at the same time providing valuable feedback even when she did not agree with our approach. This made us feel confident that she was not just some “sales” person interested in agreeing with you at all costs.”

We just wanted to take a few moments to say thank you to Erica who of course helped to plan our wedding this year. She received glowing recommendations from one of our friends so we thought we would take our chances and hire her without even looking for anyone else. It was not a mistake. Every time we met Erica she reflected openness while at the same time providing valuable feedback even when she did not agree with our approach. This made us feel confident that she was not just some “sales” person interested in agreeing with you at all costs. I cannot tell you how important it is to be able to strike that balance between being open to our vision while interjecting when necessary. She was always diplomatic and is obviously very use to dealing with all kinds of personalities. Even my husband who frankly, was not initially thrilled with the idea of a Wedding Planner had to acquiesce to the fact that I was right on this one. He couldn’t stop saying how thankful he was that she was there and how we never could have made it without her assistance. At the end of day, we found a person we both genuinely liked who matched her affability with great skill.

Bravo! Annemarie and Eddie.

“Walking in to our wedding and reception venues was surreal. Erica had somehow pulled together a wedding beyond what we had hoped and dreamed about.”

My husband and I needed to plan our wedding within two weeks to ensure a very ill parent could be a part of the day. We had the immense fortune of finding Erica Irwin, who bravely took on this challenge and knocked it out of the park. With very minimal direction from us, Erica was able to suss out our style, connect us with her exceptional vendors, and presented us with a phenomenal decor scheme. Erica used her wealth of experience to establish a work plan that we all worked off of to ensure no piece was missed during this flurry of planning. Erica also understood the immense time constraints we were under caring for a sick loved one, and went above and beyond handing many emails and texts herself, and even vendor payments on our behalf. Walking in to our wedding and reception venues was surreal. Erica had somehow pulled together a wedding beyond what we had hoped and dreamed about. We received many compliments on all aspects of our day. Almost one year later, when we reflect back on our day, we cannot think of anything more we would have wanted, and always end our musings with a, “thank goodness for Erica!”

Sincerely,

“I also appreciated all the ways you helped us to spend our money wisely.  It’s easy to get excited and go overboard when dreaming of your wedding but you kept us in check and helped to pick what best fit our budget.”

Chris and I can’t thank you enough for all you did for us to help make our special day the most memorable day of our lives. You’re help through the planning phase was a lifesaver, even to this type A control freak! At first, I was worried about working with a planner but you were fantastic and helped to make the entire experience an enjoyable one. I really appreciated your suggestions as well as you letting me micro manage the whole thing. Your flexibility was fantastic along with your recommendations. I also appreciated all the ways you helped us to spend our money wisely. It’s easy to get excited and go overboard when dreaming of your wedding but you kept us in check and helped to pick what best fit our budget. The result was truly the wedding of our dreams!

I especially appreciated your help on the night of the rehearsal. Who would have thought after seeing so many weddings on movies and TV that I had no idea how they actually go!

Having you as our Wedding Planner was worth every penny! My Mom and I got to enjoy every moment leading up to the wedding without worry! On the wedding day, Chris and I were also able relax and enjoy our guests knowing you had everything under control and would let us know where to be and when.

Thank you! I will definitely be recommending you to anyone getting married that I come across!

Sincerely,

Lori and Chris Needham
